Sony has just unveiled its latest camera for indie filmmakers — the Sony FX2. This compact yet powerful model combines the best features of the Sony Alpha IV and FX3, making it an excellent tool for capturing both stunning videos and high-quality photos.
Stunning Visuals with a Powerful Sensor
At its core, the FX2 is built for video. It records sharp 4K footage by oversampling from 7K, resulting in clean and detailed visuals. You can shoot 4K at up to 60 frames per second or Full HD at 120 fps for slow motion. With 10-bit 4:2:2 colour and support for S-Log3, it offers a wide dynamic range of over 15 stops, allowing for more creative colour grading in post-production.

Want even more quality? The FX2 can send out 16-bit RAW video through HDMI for external recording. It also supports 4K live streaming through Wi-Fi or USB, making it great for online creators and live broadcasters.
Smart Autofocus and Steady Shots with AI
The FX2 features a new AI-powered autofocus system that quickly recognizes people, animals, birds, cars, and even insects. Real-time Eye AF and subject tracking keep your subjects in focus, while auto framing adjusts your composition automatically — especially helpful if you’re filming alone.
It also has Dynamic Active Mode stabilization, which uses AI to reduce shakiness while walking and filming. On top of that, Sony’s trusted 5-axis in-body stabilization adds an extra layer of steadiness.
For videographers on the go, the FX2 makes shooting easier with its “Auto Framing” feature, which automatically keeps your subject centered in the frame. It also introduces a new “Dynamic Active Mode” that uses AI to smooth out handheld footage, even while you’re walking. Combined with Sony’s reliable in-body image stabilization, the FX2 helps ensure your videos stay steady and professional-looking.
More Than Just a Video Camera
While the FX2 is designed primarily for video, it also performs impressively in still photography. You can easily switch between video and photo modes, capturing sharp 33-megapixel images in JPEG or HEIF formats. It even allows you to shoot stills in professional S-Log3 mode or apply custom color looks. Additionally, you can extract high-quality still photos directly from your recorded videos.
The FX2 looks and feels a lot like Sony’s popular FX3 camera but adds some key features
Built-in Viewfinder: A standout feature is the new electronic viewfinder (EVF) with approximately 3.68 million dots. Magnification is 0.70x (50mm lens, infinity focus, -1m-1 diopter), and the angle of view and eyepoint are optimized for video recording. The viewfinder itself can be rotated from 0 ° to +90° for easy viewing at just about any angle, and the eye cup can be removed or reversed left-to-right as necessary, making it easier to frame your shots in bright sunlight or from tricky angles.

Touchscreen: The clear, flip-out touchscreen makes menu navigation simple and intuitive.
Cooling System: A built-in fan helps prevent overheating, allowing you to record 4K video continuously for extended periods. Heat buildup is prevented through a combination of an internal cooling fan, a highly thermal conductive graphite material used in the image stabilization unit, and an innovative design that allows ample air intake even when the LCD monitor is closed. The cooling fan has three modes that can be selected according to shooting conditions: Auto, Minimum, and Off while Recording.
Plenty of Connections: The FX2 includes all the essential ports for microphones, headphones, external monitors, and internet connections. It also features dual memory card slots for reliable and flexible recording.
Comfortable Design: With a solid grip and dedicated buttons for key functions like recording and switching modes, the camera is designed for comfort and ease of use.
