DJI has officially entered the 360-degree camera market with the release of the Osmo 360, a bold new device that promises to redefine panoramic content creation. With groundbreaking hardware, sharp photo and video capabilities, and a robust ecosystem of accessories, the Osmo 360 is positioned to challenge the status quo and set a new benchmark for immersive storytelling.
“The Osmo 360 delivers the sharpest photos possible on the 360 camera market,” DJI promises. This claim is backed by the Osmo 360’s Type 1/1.1-inch CMOS sensor, which can capture 120 megapixel photos in its panoramic photo mode and 30.7-megapixel shots in a single-lens mode.”
At the heart of the Osmo 360 is an industry-first square HDR image sensor, sized at Type 1/1.1-inch, which matches the image field of traditional 1-inch sensors but eliminates the wasted space typical in 360-degree capture. DJI claims this design results in 25% more sensor utilization, enabling sharper, more efficient imaging.
- Photo Resolution: Up to 120MP in panoramic mode; 30.7MP in single-lens mode
- Pixel Size: Large 2.4μm pixels for enhanced sharpness, reduced noise, and superior low-light performance
- Dynamic Range: A class-leading 13.5 stops
- Lens Aperture: Bright f/1.9 for cinematic depth and clarity
Compared to competitors like the Insta360 X5, which uses Type 1/1.28 sensors and maxes out at 72MP multi-lens photos and 18MP single-lens shots, the Osmo 360 leads in resolution and sensor efficiency.
Native 8K and High-Speed Action
DJI’s Osmo 360 is the first 360 camera to record native 8K video at 50fps, and it can continuously shoot 8K at 30fps for up to 100 minutes—a feat unmatched in the current market. In single-lens mode, users can capture 5K at 60fps with a 155° field of view or 4K at 120fps with a 170° ultra-wide angle using Boost Mode.
- Colour Depth: All formats support 10-bit colour or D-Log M for professional-grade editing
- Stabilization: RockSteady 3.0 and HorizonSteady ensure smooth, level footage even in dynamic motion
- Lens Switching: Seamless front/rear lens toggling without interrupting recording
Audio & Control: Hands-Free and High-Fidelity
The Osmo 360 features four built-in microphones with advanced wind noise reduction, delivering crisp stereo sound. DJI’s OsmoAudio system allows direct pairing with two DJI Mic transmitters, and Bluetooth headset support enables hands-free voice control.
